Real local numbers — not national averages — from a Travelers Rest clearing contractor.
Search “land clearing cost” and you’ll find national averages that don’t mean much on Upstate ground. Here’s what clearing actually runs in our area, based on the work we do every week around Travelers Rest, Marietta, Greer, and Taylors.
Light brush and undergrowth — privet, briars, and scattered saplings — typically runs $1,450 to $2,400 per acre with forestry mulching. One machine, one pass, and the ground is walkable the same day.
Moderate woods — thick saplings and small trees in the 2-to-4-inch range — runs $2,400 to $3,800 per acre. The machine works slower, so the per-acre number climbs with the density.
Heavy growth or steep terrain — the kind of foothills ground common around Marietta and northern Greenville County — runs $3,800 to $5,700 per acre. Slopes and big material mean more machine hours per acre, plain and simple.
Our full price list, including hourly equipment rates and bush hogging, is on the service rates page.
Density drives everything: the per-acre price is really just machine time, and dense growth cuts the acres-per-day in half. After that it’s terrain — steep red clay works slower than flat pasture — then access, since a lot the machine can drive onto prices better than one that needs a path cut first. Distance matters too; mobilization from Travelers Rest is built into our ranges, so jobs nearby price at the low end.
Mulching usually beats traditional clearing on cost because there’s nothing to burn, pile, or haul — the debris becomes the ground cover. When a job genuinely calls for clear-cutting, stump removal, or haul-off, we’ll price both ways so you can compare. More on the methods on our Tree & Forestry Services page.
A range gets your budget in the right neighborhood; a walk-through gets you a number you can plan on. We look at density, slope, access, and what finish you want, then quote the whole job — no hourly surprises unless you specifically want hourly work.
Call or text with your address and rough acreage — we’ll give you an honest range on the phone and a firm number after a free walk-through.
